I'm a retired Chiropractor. I now use my knowledge and experience to help my students...I teach Anatomy and Physiology at Pasco-Hernando State College. When I'm not working, I spend time out on the Gulf of Mexico - fishing and diving. In the evenings, I write devotionals for my men's group at Crosspoint church. Actually, as much as I love being on the water, my deepest enjoyment comes from teaching and writing for others. I guess it's's more blessed to give than to receive.

A miracle … when I least expected it!

silver-cupHi everyone,

I’m sure all of you have read numerous wonderfully incredible, surprising stories of modern-day miracles … that happen when they’re least expected. Many of them bring happy tears to your eyes, and smiles to your faces. They all remind us that God is still bringing us little episodes of hope … to help us keep believing.

But have you ever wondered … “Why don’t those miracles happen to me?” I have … many times. And yes, I’ve sometimes wondered if God even remembers me.

Well my friends … I wonder no more!

This afternoon, I was visiting  one of my favorite places … the home of my most dear friends Jerry and Gloria. I had been there a couple hours when Jerry quite casually said to me … “Oh by the way, I was cleaning up some things in the garage, when I came across two boxes that seem to have a bunch of pictures and news articles from your family history”.

I replied “What?” He said “I have no idea how they got in my garage … but I think they belong to you”.

I said “Let’s go have a look”.

My friends, as I’m writing this … I’m in tearful,  joyful, amazement.

After I got home, I went through the boxes. In those boxes are hundreds of photos spanning five generations of my family … including pictures that represent the dearest, sweetest memories of my life.

But wait … there’s more!

In one of the boxes … was my sterling silver baby cup … the first cup from which I ever drank … once I was able to drink from a cup.

Please understand … I had long ago assumed that all of those treasures were lost forever. I had no expectation … of ever seeing any of them again.

But God … had a miracle in mind! He remembered me today! My eyes are flooded.

My friends, He remembers all of you as well … every day. And in His perfect timing … He will remind each of you of that wonderfully, amazing truth … when you least expect that precious reminder.

Who remembered us in our lowly state, For His mercy endures forever Psalm 136:23

Hang on … your miracle is on the way!

Christmas … a time to receive

Hi everyone,

Let’s face it…the Christmas season is a mind-boggling jumble of advertising, crowded shopping places, events, parties, gifting obligations, family visits, etc., etc.  The demands you face are innumerable … and often overwhelming.

The Christmas season can be fun or frustrating … peaceful or stressful … happy or depressing. It all depends on your focus.

Are you focused on today’s “Christmas” … your Christmas? Or … are you focused on the original Christmas … His Christmas?

Consider the reaction to the original Christmas…

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”                                                                                Luke:13-14

What is your reaction to today’s Christmas? Is it stress, guilt, obligation, or fear of disappointment?

Sadly, you’ve been conditioned to believe Christmas is about giving.

I submit to you a different thought. Christmas is not only about giving. Christmas is … more importantly … about receiving … understanding … and appreciating  … what you’ve received.

On the first Christmas … God gave you a Savior to redeem you from the consequences of your human nature … sinfulness.

For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given … And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace  Isaiah 9:6 (bold mine)

God meant this day to be a celebration of what you’ve received … a Savior who can deliver you from eternal damnation … and grant you eternal life in paradise!

Please focus on that wonderful truth. When the hustle and bustle begin to overwhelm you … STOP!

Pause … and remember God’s reason for the season. If you surrender to the retailers’ reason for the season, you’ve missed the true value … and meaning of God’s gift to you.

For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.  Luke 2:11 (bold mine)

My friends, while you’re busy giving … please … take time to receive …and believe!

Merry Christmas!

The wait … is the test of your faith

Hi everyone,

Have you ever prayed for something and then waited … and waited … and waited? During your wait … did your faith begin to falter?

When we have to wait … especially after prayer … doubt can creep in … we begin to wonder … did God hear me … does He really answer my prayers?

First and foremost … make no mistake … God hears and answers every prayer!

But certainly God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer.  Psalm 66:19

Sometimes He responds very quickly … those are our faith re-assurers.

Sometimes He responds after a delay … those are our faith testers.

Waiting is difficult. Our nature is such that we want instant gratification. We want what we want … and we want it now!

But God measures us by our patient, faithful trust in Him.

Consider Abraham . He and his wife Sarah longed for a child … but none was forthcoming. So God tested his faith … until he was quite advanced in years … well beyond normal expected child-bearing years.

For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.  Genesis 21:2

We all-too-often forget that some things … by their nature … take time. God’s delay is not His denial. Rather, He is working things out in your life, or someone else’s life … or He’s working things out in situations or circumstances … to be perfect for you to receive His response to you prayer.

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Galatians 6:9

We’ve all heard the old cliche … “Good things come to those who wait”. None of us like that cliche … it’s annoying … but true!

But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.  Isaiah 40:31

My friends, when you pray … let your prayer go … into God’s hands. Carry on about your business … and allow God to tend to His. Don’t worry, fret or fume. His response may surprise you … please you  … or disappoint you … but always … it will be the best thing for you!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ    Ephesians 1:3

Isn’t that worth the wait?

When it’s beyond your control … be thankful!

Hi everyone,

Do you like it when something is beyond your control? Me neither. We like to feel that we’re in control … most … if not all the time. We like to make the decisions … save the day … or come to the rescue.

We definitely don’t like it when our situation or circumstance is beyond our control. That said … I submit to you … that’s when we should be thankful for our lack of control.

How many times have you been in a dicey situation … and something you thought, said, or did … made it worse?

For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.                                                  1 Corinthians 1:25

That’s my point! We are not in control of anything but ourselves … and that  … not very well.

The truth is … when we find ourselves not in control … we should happily drop to our knees and thank God. Because … our limited minds and resources don’t have to come up with the solution.

Blessedly … the problem gloriously leaps from being our responsibility … to being God’s responsibility. And thankfully, His unlimited mind and unlimited resources are more than adequate to handle anything, and everything.

My friends, I implore you … do not not rely on your own “wisdom” … which may or may not be wise. Please, in all things … call on God … ask Him … what is the wise thing for you to do … in each and every  opportunity, invitation, decision, and choice in your life.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.  James 1:5

We worry, stress and fret about so many things. Why? Have we forgotten  … God’s got this … and us!

When things are beyond our control … we are in the best place we can be. Because … the One who is in control … will take over … and settle the matter.

… in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.                       Romans 8:37-39

God’s got it … have you got it?

PS … whenever you’re feeling sorry for yourself … realize this!

Nick was born without arms or legs!  What are you whining about?
